Witte Building Restoration & Expansion

This unique, historic property is located downtown, at the beginning of the horseshoe section of the San Antonio River. The client plans to redevelop the property into a mixed-use development to include restaurant, office and residential components.

Douglas Architects, Inc.’s design solution reorients the property to the River Walk by opening the west side of the property. In order to do this, it was necessary to remove and relocate an existing utility vault and transform the west face of the property into a terrace overlooking the river. The northern portion of the property will receive a new elevator, which will provide public handicap access to and from the river. Douglas Architects also worked closely with the city to receive the required Historic and Design Review Committee approvals.
